Nike SB Dunk Low – New Colorway - Fall 2009

Nike continues to invent new colorways in their classic Nike SB Dunk Low. Here we feature a few colorways of a new version slated to release as part of their Fall 2009 collection. They sport hints of crocodile patent leather, smooth leather, nubuck, and suede, a combination that is bound to get attention.

They also feature a multi-colored design, consisting of lime green, black, and red. If you look closely, you will notice the speckled detailing around the ankle collar. Look for them to hit retailers later on this year, and stay tuned in for more updates.

Nike SB August Releases

Nike SB has no problem constantly keeping us updated so there isn’t much in this month’s SB releases that we haven’t already seen. With Paul Rodriguez’s street win at the X Games it is only fitting that we get three P-Rod III colorway drops. Though this is far from a classic month thus far; however, the Ron Burgundy Dunk lows, and Green Bay Packer Dunk Mids may be able to stand the test of time.

Nike Dunk High - Homer Simpson

We’ve seen a Simpsons character used as inspiration for a pair of Nike Dunks, as we all saw the Nike Dunk High SB - Marge Simpson. Nike has recently released a pair inspired by her husband, Homer J. Simpson. They sport a voltage yellow and midnight blue upper constructed from a combination of leather and suede, along with perforated quarter panels for ventilation. Look for them now at Ltd-Online.

Nike Zoom Sharkalaid - Storm Shadow - G.I. Joe Pack

Hot on the heels of the super-cool Nike x Transformers 2 pack, Nike will also be releasing another three pack of kicks inspired by another classic 80’s cartoon turned summer blockbuster. You may have already seen our preview of the Cobra Commander Alpholution and now we get a look at another installment of the collection. The deadly white-suited Cobra ninja, Storm Shadow, will be the inspiration for the second shoe in the pack, a mostly White Zoom Sharkalaid with some minimal Black and Red accents and a clear outsole. Like the Cobra Commander Alpholution, these kicks feature the Cobra insignia on the tongue and a Swoosh x Cobra logo on the insoles. These are expected to drop some time in August to coincide with the release of the G.I. Joe movie and will of course be packaged in a retro-looking G.I. Joe toy box similar to the Transformers 2 Pack.

Air Jordan XX3 - Ray Allen - Away PE

Known as the most technologically sound Air Jordan model, the Air Jordan 23 (XX3) is probably the best signature model that Mike never wore on the court. They have been releasing in several colorways, with the latest being the Legacy Pack and the Air Jordan 23 (XX3) Premier Edition. Featured here is a pair of black and green ones which are actually player exclusives for the Boston Celtics’ Ray Allen. No word yet as to a public release, but we’ll keep you guys informed

Is Detroit better signing Ben Gordon and trading ’Rip’ Hamilton?

Has Joe Dumars lost his touch? arton50560-150x1011

The Pistons’ head suit has always been a shrewd operator, finding under appreciated players and giving them opportunities to shine on Motown’s stage. His value approach turned Detroit into a perennial contender on-court, while modeling fiscal sanity in an era when franchises have spent like drunken sailors.

Something has changed. Dumars now seems intent on taking risks with the franchise he leads.

It started last November when he wrapped MVP candidate and classic table-setter Chauncey Billups in a bow and gave him to Denver. Sure, Allen Iverson’s ‘max’ contract will provide the cap flexibility to sign a big ticket free-agent, but few impact a team like Mr. Big Shot. Whatever name the Pistons bring in this summer, he can’t replace Billups.

Recent reports have Dumars preparing a multi-year offer at $11 million per season for pending free agent Ben Gordon. The combo guard is a solid scorer, but hardly worth opening the vaults for. Gordon, because of his size, struggles to create scoring opportunities and wouldn’t necessarily be an improvement over ‘Rip’ Hamilton.

Suppose, for a minute, Dumars does sign Gordon. Then he has to move Hamilton -even though the veteran signed a three-year pact for 33 million dollars. In less than a year, Detroit would’ve replaced Billups and Hamilton, one of the game’s top backcourts, with Stuckey and Gordon.

Dumars was wrong to trade Billups. Swapping Gordon for Hamilton is also risky.

Detroit’s current shooting guard has size, experience, and a defined position. All of which are valuable with a young, developing point guard like Stuckey. As mentioned earlier, Gordon is smallish, has less experience, and is a two trapped in a one’s body. To be fair, the former Sixth Man of the Year is younger then Hamilton and hungry to prove his worth.

The remodeling will continue this summer. Detroit’s future depends on Dumars making the right decisions, not gambling on players like Gordon.
